Description
iroironairo means "various colors. This book originates from a series of photographs taken by Lucien Hsieh during his exchange year in Japan in 2022, capturing different places and moments throughout his stay. Using "color" as the central theme, he connected scattered images with similar hues to reweave a visual memory of his life abroad. The project was first presented in 2023 as a website, where a custom program analyzed the dominant colors in each photo. This allowed viewers to explore the full archive and discover images with similar color palettes—gradually piecing together a visual narrative of his collected memories.
Building on the digital version, he compiled these images into a physical book in 2025, as a way to commemorate the many colors he encountered that year, along with the people and stories that existed alongside.
The cover design echoes the concept of "color," listing all the places he visited and assigning each one a representative hue—taken from the most dominant color in the first photo captured at each location. Before even opening the book, readers are invited to feel the richness of those colors from the cover alone.
